Institute of Power Engineering

Emblemat IEnThe Institute is a State owned firm founded in 1953. Total staff is 430 employees including 271 technical  university  graduates and 41 Ph.Ds. Traditionally the Institute performs R&D works for the Polish power industry. Research encompasses i.e. energy systems, combustion processes, thermal plants, power system protection, high voltage technique, power and special transformers, material technology, electrical distribution equipment, air pollution control.
Research related to Sustainable Energy Systems are performed at Thermal Processes Department (CPC).
CPC for last 40 years has bee engaged in research and development related to use of coal for energy production. Department activity covers all kinds of research and design works concerning coal combustion in the power utility boilers, i.e. milling systems, swirl and jet pulverised coal burners including low-NOx burners, fluidised bed combustion, firing up the boilers and flame stabilisation for low grade coals, boiler operation with low NOx emission, retrofitting and recently solid oxide fuel technology (SOFC) as well.
